.Plus, many acne scars are tethered by fibrous bands underneath the skin—a microneedling needle isn’t cutting through that. That’s why patients often report seeing little to no change after multiple sessions.
Here are some common reasons why microneedling doesn't cut it for deep scars:
- Not deep enough: Microneedling can't reach the base of thick or pitted scars.
- Doesn’t break scar tissue: It won’t release fibrous tethers holding the scar down.
- Slow, minimal change: It takes several sessions just to see subtle improvements.
- Not customizable: You can’t tailor depth or technique per scar with precision.
So What Actually Works for Deep Acne Scars?

This is a high-strength chemical spot treatment for ice pick scars. It stimulates collagen from within the scar base, helping it rise over time.
3. Ablative CO2 and Erbium Lasers
